Reading during childhood is a key tool for language development, vocabulary enrichment, and knowledge expansion. With this vision, the Union of Industrial and Maquiladora Workers (SJOIIM) and Fundación Objetivo Sinergia recognized students from several schools participating in the free interactive library program Pathbooks for their dedication and reading performance.
Promoting reading in community schools
Over the course of less than a month, elementary school students from neighborhoods founded or supported by SJOIIM dedicated part of their time to reading different titles through the Pathbooks platform, strengthening their reading comprehension and interest in literature.
Participating schools included:
- Agapito González Cavazos Elementary School
- José Vasconcelos Elementary School
- Guadalupe Cavazos de González Elementary School, morning and afternoon shifts
- Martha García Maldonado Elementary School
- José Doroteo Arango Elementary School
- Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Elementary School
- Niños Héroes Elementary School
Recognition for students and schools
Student Humberto Zavala Reyes, from Guadalupe Cavazos de González Elementary School, afternoon shift, earned first place among all participating institutions with 1,017 readings.
The José Vasconcelos Elementary School also received special recognition as the school with the highest number of recorded readings, reaching a total of 8,839 readings.
Message from the General Secretary
During the event, SJOIIM General Secretary Juan Villafuerte Morales emphasized that participating in projects that bring reading closer to children is deeply meaningful for the union.
“Congratulations to all of you. We hope you continue your education and keep reading, because reading opens new opportunities. I thank Objetivo Sinergia for this great work, as well as the teachers and parents for their support,” he said.
