“Tuesday in Your Neighborhood” Program Arrives in Section 16 with SJOIIM Support

As part of ongoing efforts to bring public services closer to various sectors of Matamoros, the “Tuesday in Your Neighborhood” program took place at the Mercadito Joaquín Amaro Cabrera, located in Colonia Sección 16, with the presence of Mayor Alberto Granados.

During this community outreach day, a wide range of services were provided, addressing priority needs of local residents. The Union of Industrial Workers and Laborers of the Maquiladora Industry (SJOIIM) joined the initiative, strengthening its alliance with local government to deliver direct benefits to the working class.

A Collaboration That Brings Results

The SJOIIM, led by General Secretary Juan Villafuerte Morales, has been working hand in hand with municipal authorities to improve the quality of life for union members and their communities.

Examples of this collaboration include recent pavement projects in the area, enhanced street lighting at the entrance to the Fidel Velázquez Sánchez Gymnasium, and other actions that reflect a strong commitment to social well-being.

Committed to Every Aspect of Community Development

In his address, Juan Villafuerte Morales expressed satisfaction with the ongoing collaboration with the current municipal government, noting its responsiveness to public concerns on issues such as sanitation, public lighting, and access to drinking water.

“We go further — into areas like sports, health, and whatever else is needed. As a union organization, we strive to ensure our people receive these benefits,” stated the union leader.

His message reaffirmed that the union’s work extends beyond the workplace, embracing integral community development that enhances overall well-being.

Active Participation from the SJOIIM Leadership

The event also featured the participation of SJOIIM Executive Committee members, including:

  • Agustín Martínez, President of the Sports Commission
  • Aroldo Peña, Sports Advisor
  • Francisco Martínez, Head of the Land Department
  • Paty Duque and Jesús Ochoa, union leaders

In addition, residents of Colonia Sección 16 were present and took the opportunity to share their needs and proposals with visiting officials.

Conclusion

Programs like “Tuesday in Your Neighborhood”, in collaboration with SJOIIM, demonstrate that coordination between government and unions can bring about tangible improvements in communities. Addressing topics like infrastructure, public services, sports, and health not only strengthens neighborhoods but also builds a sense of unity and trust between citizens and their representatives.

The SJOIIM union continues to be a key player in the social transformation of Matamoros, going beyond labor matters and standing as a true partner in collective progress.
