The Union of Industrial and Maquiladora Workers (SJOIIM) remains firmly committed to protecting the rights and well-being of its members by fostering institutional dialogue and strategic collaboration aimed at continuously improving labor and social conditions for workers in Matamoros.
Direct Dialogue with Federal Authorities
As part of this effort, a working meeting was held with Mexican Senator Olga Sosa Ruiz, attended by Juan Villafuerte Morales, General Secretary of both the FRTM and SJOIIM.
The discussion focused on the progress achieved by workers in recent years and the current challenges faced by working-class families along the border.
Social and Economic Challenges
Key issues addressed included:
- Rising cost of basic goods due to inflation
- Unemployment
- Public safety concerns
- Limited access to healthcare facilities
