Workers of Puertas y Vidrios Plants 1 and 2 Meet with Council Members and SJOIIM

To address the concerns of employees at Puertas y Vidrios Plants 1 and 2, a working meeting was held, organized by the SJOIIM, with participation from company directors and Matamoros council members. The dialogue focused on key issues for the workers, including the need for improved public transportation and the rehabilitation of Avenida Uniones.

Participation of Council Members and Union Leaders

The meeting was attended by council members Rafael Méndez Lorenzo, Yanín Zaleta García Delgado, Lucía Biasi Serrano, Rodolfo Simón Hernández Piña, and Amalia Morales Cobos, who listened firsthand to the needs presented by the workers and directors. Also present were SJOIIM General Secretary Juan Villafuerte Morales, along with members of his executive committee and union delegates.

In his address, the union leader highlighted the importance of collaboration between authorities and companies to solve issues affecting workers and the maquiladora industry at large.
“Synergy is being created between all levels of government, maquiladoras, and the union to address the needs of our workers,” expressed Juan Villafuerte Morales.

The Importance of Collaboration

Villafuerte Morales emphasized that this meeting was a clear example of effective collaboration between stakeholders:
“The team grows stronger: the union, maquiladoras, workers, authorities, and, in this case, Matamoros council members. I appreciate their willingness to attend this invitation, which is not common but reflects the good communication between Mayor Alberto Granados and our union,” noted the union leader.

The council members’ openness to participate in such discussions was well received by the workers and Puertas y Vidrios directors, who appreciated the opportunity to voice their concerns.

Requests Presented to the Council

After extensive discussions, the workers and company directors formally submitted a request to the council members, asking for the rehabilitation of Avenida Uniones, a crucial route for mobility in the industrial area. Additionally, they addressed the need for maintenance of water and drainage pipes, which falls under the management of the JAD (Water and Drainage Board).

These requests reflect the main concerns of the workers regarding infrastructure and public services, essential aspects for improving both their working conditions and quality of life.

Commitment to Continue the Dialogue

To conclude, the SJOIIM General Secretary urged the council members to ensure that this meeting is not a one-time event but the beginning of a continuous dialogue with other companies and workers in the region.

Final Reflection

This meeting between the SJOIIM, workers and directors of Puertas y Vidrios, and Matamoros council members represents a significant step toward addressing key issues impacting the maquiladora industry. The collaboration among authorities, companies, and unions shows that dialogue is the most effective tool for generating solutions that benefit both workers and the community.

With the willingness shown by the council members and the union’s commitment, this meeting paves the way for new opportunities to improve infrastructure and essential services in Matamoros. Without a doubt, it’s a prime example of how teamwork can make a significant difference for the region.
